Olivia Steele

Berlin, Germany; Mexico City, Mexico; Los Angeles, California, United States

Olivia Steele uses illuminated language to introduce moments of reflection into landscapes, interiors and public places. Her hand-formed neon phrases extend into road signs, fire pieces and interventions on found objects. The artist identifies Berlin, Mexico City and Los Angeles as places where she lives and works. In Colorado, her public-art portfolio documents The Only Way Out is Through at The Aurora Highlands, a tunnel mural made with Berlin street artist SNYDER. The collaboration combines graffiti, neon and a phoenix image to address perseverance and renewal. The same portfolio records a separate PDA presentation at The Aurora Highlands. Those entries show different ways textual art can operate in a neighborhood setting, but neither supplies an installation year or dimensions. The tunnel collaboration is credited to both artists.
