Mr and Mrs Ferguson

Lisa and Robert Ferguson work together as Mr and Mrs Ferguson, making public animal sculptures whose surfaces reward close inspection. Their grizzly bears use pennies as a textured covering, turning a familiar small object into the apparent fur of a much larger form. Curious was installed at Google’s public Visitor Experience/Gradient park in September 2022; the artist account describes a carved polystyrene body over steel, penny covering, glass eyes and a hammered-steel nose. Ursa Ravus was installed in Telluride in July 2019. Its project credit names assistants Jane Poynter and Dottie Lester, Tanner Reed for the metal nose and claws, and Bee Kingdom Glass for the eyes. Mum, a mother-and-cub sculpture made in 2022, traveled from Chatsworth’s Radical Horizons exhibition to Mountain Village. That later display’s advertised ending is not proof of a completed removal.
