What the project record tells us

2022 collaborative garden

An ecosystem that makes care consequential

Charismatic Metafauna, created with Majorelle Arts, comprises nineteen sculptures in Davidson’s 2022 account. Steel, canvas, wood, light, fire and sound form endangered creatures approaching an extinction portal. Sensors and cameras translate visitor behavior into changes in their apparent health; distance and music can help restore them. The work makes collective care part of participation. How would a host explain those relationships so visitors can discover the rules while understanding their effect on other people’s encounters?

2017 collaboration with Misha Naiman and Majorelle Arts

A tree assembled from patina and glass

Methuselah v2.0 is Davidson’s twenty-foot-tall sculptural interpretation of an ancient bristlecone pine in California’s White Mountains. His portfolio credits the project to a partnership with Misha Naiman and Majorelle Arts and lists 2017 as its year. Patinated steel sheet, curling metal rods and stained glass build a bark-like surface around themes of ancestry and deep time. A planning discussion can begin with this material layering: from which distances and directions should viewers perceive the tree’s outline, surface detail and transmitted light?

First presented at Unscruz, May 2024

Walking among suspended moments

A Stillness of Rain was first presented at the May 2024 Unscruz art event in a group exhibition of large multimedia sculptures. Davidson describes a fourteen-foot steel form between tree and architecture, with hanging elements that suggest both arrested raindrops and emerging awareness. Steel, patina, glass and paraffin support that imagery, and walking among the elements reveals the complete composition. For a similar environment, how should the route accommodate close looking while maintaining a clear understanding of the suspended elements and their fire components?
