Candi Carrell

Candi Carrell combines clay, found objects and welded metal in sculptures shaped by the Sonoran Desert, popular monsters and traditions honoring the dead. A longtime Tucson art teacher, she describes introducing found objects into her work in 2004 and welding in 2020. Her practice includes both small assemblages and larger participatory projects. The artist’s gallery dates Throw the Stories in the Fire to 2019 and associates it with Burning Man, GLOW and Triangle L Ranch Sculpture Park in Oracle, Arizona. Her biography also credits the Borton Magnet School community with making a 1,600-square-foot mosaic for Ben’s Bells. The 2023 Burning Man archive lists Our Perpetual Lady of Lost Souls and Secrets, a jackalope form on a nine-foot metal base. That archive listing documents the proposed event work; it does not independently confirm its completion or current location.
