The studio lists a 350-square-foot scale, ONE Mile Detroit as stakeholder, and support from the Knight Arts Foundation and University of Michigan. Its purpose connects an identifiable object with cultural programming in underused spaces.

Detroit Afrikan Funkestra: scenography rooted in a neighborhood
For the 2016 Detroit Afrikan Funkestra, Akoaki developed a stage using plywood, house paint, glitter and hardware. The open-air opera began at Oakland Avenue Urban Farm with twelve musicians. Its set referenced neighborhood music venues, showing how a temporary environment can carry local cultural history while supporting a live event.
